Continuity isn't luck.
It's engineering.

Every Maximo project manager has lived this moment: the package that worked in staging breaks in production. A dependency nobody remembered to extract. A small team, or a single professional, holding alone the knowledge of how each environment was built.

There's a different way to do this. It's how Maxinst works.

MDS Package

Traceable by ticket
  1. Development
  2. Staging
  3. Production
  • 01Screensversioned · validated
  • 02Domainsversioned · validated
  • 03Integrationsversioned · validated
  • 04Workflowsversioned · validated

Same structure, same execution order, same technical documentation, regardless of who did the work.

The problem

Three risks nobody puts on paper

Maximo configuration doesn't live in a repository. It lives in the database, in the head of whoever configured it, in decisions made on a screen and never documented anywhere.

Dependency on a single person

When the knowledge of how an environment was built lives in a single professional, however good they are, the company doesn't depend on a process. It depends on them. They go on vacation, change accounts, leave the company, and the team is left exposed.

Inconsistency between environments

What was tested in development doesn't always land the same way in staging. What passed in staging doesn't always land the same way in production. Wrong order, forgotten artifact, and the deploy fails at the worst possible time.

Traceability that doesn't exist

When someone asks "what changed in this environment since last month," the answer is rarely fast. Sometimes it doesn't exist at all.

None of these pains are unique to one client or one project. It's the traditional Maximo customization process, in any consultancy that works the conventional way.

The solution

Continuous evolution starts here

Maxinst solved this internally, before offering anything built on top of it.

We call it MDS, Maxinst Development System. It's the method that turns every Maximo customization, every screen, domain, integration, workflow, automation script, into a versioned, testable and traceable artifact, from the first draft in development to the final delivery in production.

It isn't a tool we sell separately. It's how Maxinst works with every client that joins our continuous evolution journey.

In progress

Today MDS runs as an internal engine, orchestrated by our team. It is evolving toward a version with a graphical interface, designed to speed up onboarding for new team members, accelerate and raise the quality of deliveries, and give Functional Consultants autonomy to resolve the technical difficulties of changes to IBM Maximo environments.

Four guarantees in every delivery

Every change becomes a validated artifact.

Every customization extracted from Maximo is converted into a standardized script, validated against the official schema before it leaves the development environment. Configuration errors don't reach staging. Much less production.

Dependencies aren't left behind.

An integration depends on an object structure. An attribute depends on a domain. An escalation depends on actions and templates. MDS follows these dependencies automatically, ensuring nothing is left out of the package.

Every ticket has a complete history.

Every change is tied to a ticket, versioned, traceable. It's possible to know exactly what was delivered, when, and rebuild an old delivery if needed.

The package always comes out the same.

Same structure, same execution order, same technical documentation, regardless of who did the work. Predictability doesn't depend on who's on call.

The difference

Process, not luck

Here's what sets Maxinst apart from any other Maximo consultancy in the market.

Conventional model

Most Maximo consulting companies, even the good ones, still depend on a key professional's memory to know how each environment was built. When that professional leaves, changes projects, or simply goes on vacation, the client is exposed. The company doesn't have a process. It has a person playing the role of a process.

Maxinst with MDS

Maxinst institutionalized the method. With MDS, every change in any environment, from the first commit in development to the application in production, is documented, traceable and accessible to the entire technical team, not just to whoever did the work.

This means your company doesn't depend on a person. It depends on a process that survives any team change.

Proof

From several hours to a cycle of about one hour

In a real MAS (Maximo Application Suite) environment sustainment project, activities that used to require environment preparation, activating admin mode, execution via Migration Manager and validation, a process that consumed several hours, came to be resolved in a cycle of about one hour, from stopping the environment to returning it to operation. Applying the package itself takes minutes.

Several hours

With MDS · stop to return

Minutes

Applying the package

The time that used to be dedicated to manually preparing and executing deployments is now redirected to development, testing and evolving the solution. MDS contributes to faster delivery cycles, more predictability in the change process, and more efficient management of IBM Maximo environments.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is MDS sold separately?

No. MDS isn't sold separately. It's how Maxinst works with every client that decides to join the continuous evolution journey of their Maximo environment.

Which customizations does MDS cover?

Every Maximo customization: screens, domains, integrations, workflows and automation scripts. Everything becomes a versioned, testable and traceable artifact, from the first draft in development to the final delivery in production.

How does MDS prevent deploys from failing in production?

Every extracted customization is converted into a standardized script and validated against the official schema before it leaves the development environment. Dependencies (object structures, domains, actions, templates) are followed automatically, and the package always comes out with the same structure and execution order.

What if the professional handling my account changes?

With MDS, every change is documented, traceable and accessible to the entire technical team, not just to whoever did the work. Your operation depends on a process that survives any team change.

Can I know what changed in an environment and rebuild an old delivery?

Yes. Every change is tied to a ticket, versioned and traceable. It's possible to know exactly what was delivered, when, and rebuild an old delivery if needed.

Does MDS work with Maximo Application Suite (MAS)?

Yes. In a real MAS environment sustainment project, activities that used to consume several hours came to be resolved in a cycle of about one hour, from stopping the environment to returning it to operation.

Does my team need to operate MDS?

Today MDS runs as an internal engine, orchestrated by the Maxinst team. It's evolving toward a version with a graphical interface, which will give Functional Consultants autonomy to resolve technical difficulties of changes to IBM Maximo environments.
